Route and stop statuses

What each route status and stop status means, which button moves a route from one status to the next, what each move checks and what it does to the orders on it.

A route is one vehicle's run from a depot through a list of delivery stops on one service day. The route has a status, and each stop on it has its own status. This page explains both, and what changes when a route moves on.

Route statuses

StatusMeaningCan you change the stops?
DraftBeing built. Only a depot, date and start time are needed. Stops and a vehicle are optional.Yes: add, remove, re-order. Depot, vehicle, date and time can change.
PlannedThe stops were checked: every order exists, can be routed and picks up at the route's depot.Yes. The depot is fixed (move back to draft to change it).
ReadyThe vehicle and its driver were checked and the load fits. The route waits for its service day.Yes, and the load is checked again.
In progressDispatched: the driver is out.Only re-order the stops not done yet.
CompletedClosed after the last stop, or ended early.No.
CancelledStopped before it left.No.

A route counts as delayed while it is in progress and running 5 minutes or more behind plan. It is not a separate status: the route stays In progress and shows the delay (for example +25 min).

How a route moves

The usual path is Draft → Planned → Ready → In progress → Completed. You can step back from Planned to Draft and from Ready to Planned. Draft, Planned and Ready routes can be cancelled; only a Draft can be deleted. An In progress route can't be cancelled: complete it or end it early.

MoveButtonWhat is checkedWhat it does
Draft → PlannedPlan routeThe date is not in the past; at least one stop; every order can be routed from this depot. With a vehicle: the load fits (vehicle problems are only warnings here).Refreshes each stop from its order (address, packages, window) and re-plans the times.
Planned → DraftMove back to draft-Nothing else; the stops stay.
Planned → ReadyMark readyThe date is not in the past; at least one stop; a vehicle that is in service and not a draft; the vehicle has a main driver who is not inactive, unavailable, suspended or pending approval; the load fits (weight always, cargo volume and pallet places when your fleet settings check them); the vehicle is not on another ready or in-progress route that day.Takes the vehicle's current main driver as the route's driver.
Ready → PlannedMove back to planned, or clearing the vehicle in Edit-The route waits for a vehicle again.
Ready → In progressDispatchIt is the service day; every order can still be delivered; the vehicle checks above again; the vehicle and the driver are not still on another route in progress. An expired driver licence is a warning, not a block.Every open stop's order goes to the route's driver and counts as accepted; a failed delivery on the route is loaded again for a new attempt. The vehicle's live position starts at the depot.
In progress → CompletedComplete routeNo stop is still pending. The app does this by itself when the driver closes the last stop.Closes the route; the vehicle shows as finished on the live map.
In progress → CompletedEnd route…A reason when stops are left. Each open stop is either sent Back to unassigned orders (stop skipped) or Marked as failed deliveries (stop failed), then the route completes.
Draft / Planned / Ready → CancelledCancel route-Open stops are skipped and the orders are free to plan again. An optional reason is kept.
Draft → removedDelete draftOnly drafts. The draft is gone; its orders stay unassigned.

Routes are never closed by themselves: someone with write access to routes completes or ends each one. A route still in progress after its day shows Still on the road since … on its page.

Planning from the planner can skip steps: Save draft creates a Draft; Dispatch route runs the Mark ready checks and creates a Ready route, then dispatches it at once when the date is today.

Loading (between Ready and In progress)

Confirm load is not a status. It is a sign-off you can do on the service day while the route is Ready or In progress: every open stop's order is either loaded (moves to Picked up, held by the route's driver) or left at the depot (its stop comes off the route, or is skipped once the route is running). The route page then shows a Loaded banner.

Stop statuses

StatusMeaningHow it gets there
PendingNot done yet.Every new stop.
CompletedDelivered.Complete on the route page with Delivered, the driver completing it in the app, or the order being delivered from its own page.
FailedThe delivery was attempted and failed.Complete with Failed, the driver reporting a failure, the order failing elsewhere, or End route… with Mark them as failed deliveries.
SkippedThe stop was dropped without an attempt.End route… with Back to unassigned orders, Cancel route, an order left at the depot when loading a running route, or an order cancelled, put on hold or handed to someone else while the route runs.

Completed, failed and skipped stops all count as done in Stops done. The route page also shows Arrived and Left times on done stops; arriving is a time on the stop, not a status.

Rules for stops

  • On the route page you can only complete the Next stop: the first pending one. The driver app and the order page can complete any stop; the route follows and moves the done stop up, in the order things happened.
  • On a running route, done stops stay fixed at the top. Reorder stops only changes the order of the pending ones; you can't add or remove stops there. To move pending stops to another route of the same depot, or back to unassigned, use Reassign next stops on the Live map.
  • On a draft, planned or ready route, an order that is cancelled, put on hold or given to another driver simply leaves the route. A planned or ready route must keep at least one stop.
  • Address, delivery window and package changes on an order update its stop (the driver goes to the new address and capacity sees the new weight).

How it looks elsewhere

WhereWhat you see
Route plannerThe route status, and the delay under it while late.
Live mapThe vehicle's live status: On route, Delayed, Finished or Idle / Standby.
A depot's Today tabRoutes leaving that depot today with their status and stops done.
An order's pageThe order has its own statuses (for example Driver accepted, Picked up, Delivered). Route actions move them as described above.
